Calibration

Before delivery, systems are calibrated by SONOR Kalibratie, a brand-independent laboratory accredited to IEC/ISO 17025. The calibration is carried out according to a procedure related to ISO 16063-21. During a calibration the Frogwatch vibration sensor is compared with a calibrated reference transducer. The calibration also serves as an extra test to check that everything works properly.

All systems are calibrated for all 3 axes, the X, Y and Z directions, at two different frequencies: 15.9 Hz and 40.0 Hz.

Axis definitions during calibration

Unlike the usual automatic orientation, the X, Y and Z axes are always fixed during calibration, so the sensor can be calibrated in any orientation:

During the calibration the entire measurement chain is checked. So not only the transducer/sensor, but the entire integrated system: sensor + electronics and electronic and digital filters, as well as the readout and processing software. When you buy a Frogwatch, it is delivered calibrated as standard, with a calibration certificate.

We recommend having a calibration carried out regularly, preferably once every 2 years or more often. The main purpose of this is to demonstrate that the equipment still works properly and within the required accuracy. Suppose you had a calibration done right before and right after an important project: that gives a lot of confidence that the equipment also measured with comparable accuracy during the project.
